I chose a doctoral program because I want to deepen my knowledge and channel my curiosity in subjects I am passionate about.

I wrote my master’s thesis at the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS), where the creative and meticulous academic environment made a strong impression on me. At IAS, researchers from diverse backgrounds collaborate to understand human behavior and its societal effects.

The institute also offers excellent development opportunities for young researchers who aspire to pursue an academic career.

Coming from a working-class background, an academic career was never a given. But from an early age, I was driven by a desire to understand and critically reflect on the world around me. A doctoral education gives me the opportunity to become an expert in my field by learning from the best researchers. A decisive factor in my choice to come to IAS was the institute’s strong openness to data-driven methods.

From day one, I felt welcomed at IAS, and I truly appreciate the support I receive here. The collaborative atmosphere is excellent, and I feel that great care is taken with the PhD students.

I chose a doctoral program because I’m interested in learning how our world works. I believe that a PhD opens up opportunities to contribute to solving problems in today’s society. IAS offers a great environment for learning, but also for gaining teaching experience.

The PhD students at IAS are enthusiastic and open to sharing and discussing their ideas. We’ve had the opportunity to influence and shape our own education, for example through career seminars with senior staff, focusing on academic life.
