Research

My research interest lies at the intersection of aging and migration. This interest began with a general curiosity about the role of one´s origin in the aging process – does my Chinese heritage become more important as I grow older, or is the opposite true? Do I become more Swedish the longer I live in this country, or will I be more inclined to identify with my Chinese roots? My project, "Aging in Sweden as Foreign-born," aims to explore the perceptions and experiences of aging and migration among older individuals residing in Sweden. It consists of four part-studies:

  • Study 1 "Aging in Sweden as Foreign-born: A Quest for Life and Its Meaning: A Grounded Theory Study" is an overview study focusing on the primary concerns of older individuals regarding aging.

  • Study 2 "Aging with My Family: A Grounded Theory Approach on the Role of Family When Aging as Foreign-born" explores the significance of family in the context of ageing.

  • Study 3 (ongoing) aims to map the social networks of older individuals and understand their roles for aging.

  • Study 4 (ongoing) aims to understand the perceptions of dignity among older adults at the end-of-life care.
