Peder af Geijerstam

Adjunct Assistant Lecturer

My research is focused on cardiovascular disease, and in particular blood pressure measurements and hypertension.

Presentation

Does home blood pressure measurements improve management of hypertension?

High blood pressure is the primary cause of premature mortality, primarily through cardiovascular disease such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Most patients with hypertension are managed in primary care settings, and blood pressure has historically been measured at the clinic. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that home blood pressure measurements, performed by patients themselves, provide a more accurate prediction of cardiovascular risk. Additional benefits of this method include enhanced patient engagement and the opportunity to manage hypertension remotely. My research focuses on enhancing our understanding of home blood pressure monitoring and identify contexts in which it is more beneficial.
