At the Ingrid Asp Kidney Research Center, patient-oriented kidney research is conducted with a focus on finding new and more effective treatments. The research center is a platform for physicians, nurses and biomedical researchers to connect in order to strengthen kidney research projects locally and support national and international collaboration.

About the research

Kidney disease is more common than previously recognized. By 2040, kidney failure could be the fifth leading cause of death if no action is taken. It is a complex disease with a strong link to cardiovascular disease, where also young kidney patients are disproportionally affected.

There is a great need for more research on disease mechanisms and on how to prevent disease progression. One of the goals of kidney research at LiU is to be able to diagnose and treat patients early.

Timely and more precise treatments can slow the progression to kidney failure and its accompanying complications.
Annette Bruchfeld is Professor in Nephrology and research leader at the center, which is funded by a donation from the Ingrid Asp Foundation for Kidney Research. The center is a node for kidney research with the aim of creating new collaborations and disseminating knowledge about the impact of kidney diseases on public health. Here, seminar series and symposia will also be organized where leading national and international researchers will be invited to promote clinical research and new research findings.

Research centre to bring hope to kidney patients
