Transformational Adaptation
The growing impacts of climate change highlight the urgency of adaptation. This project examines how the concept of transformational adaptation influences international climate negotiations and explores its potential benefits and challenges.
Reliable validation of greenhouse gas models and assessments
The project develops new methods to improve the validation of greenhouse gas models and assessments. The focus is on creating cost-effective, mobile, and high-resolution methods for measuring greenhouse gas fluxes and land use.
Support for stakeholder cooperation and multifunctional adaptation of residential areas
The project aims to strengthen property owners' ability to adapt buildings to the climate. We study how climate vulnerability is analysed in different property stocks and how residential areas can be adapted while residents' added value increases.

Unexpectedly high emissions from wastewater treatment plants
Greenhouse gas emissions from many wastewater treatment plants may be more than twice as large as previously thought. This is shown in a new study from LiU, where the researchers used drones with specially manufactured sensors to measure emissions.
Climate Change
Climate change, one of today’s most difficult challenges. The research follows two main tracks. Climate policy in a broader sense and the other one climate-biogeochemistry, particularly with regard to the emission of greenhouse gases.
RELITORATE – Connecting shorelines, carbon flows, and greenhouse gases
Littoral zones influence carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions but are often overlooked. This project integrates them into lake carbon budgets using advanced measurement and modelling techniques.
Advancing airborne assessments of greenhouse gas fluxes
Effects of declining sulfur deposition on lake methane cycling
The project examines how declining sulfate deposition affects methane cycling in lakes, focusing on how sulfate reduction shifts microbial communities and impacts methane emissions through methanogenesis and methane oxidation.
