Abstract: Loneliness and mental well-being in later life are shaped by more than individual characteristics; they are embedded in social structures and networks. This presentation uses a socioecological perspective to examine how social resources interact across individual, interpersonal, and societal levels to influence well-being among older adults. Particular attention is given to aspects of social capital, such as trust and participation, and their role in buffering loneliness and promoting mental well-being. Drawing on evidence from diverse studies, we explore multi-level pathways to well-being, and discuss how integrating social capital into socioecological models can advance ageing research.
